7 months ago I had a quote from BG to supply to a new property.
I have installed ducting and the quote was £2100 which I thought was plenty
Due to unforseen delays this quote expired [only lasts for 30days] so just got a new quote for exactly the same, no variation at all, would anyone like to guess the price?
bet you can not.
I will post the figure after 12.00 today

I don't think BG do the actual supply work themselves - I imagine it would be sub-contracted. So you should be able to get quotes from elsewhere. Try what used to be called Transco (now national Grid?) who used to do this work. They should be able to supply a list of approved contractors for this type of work.

Thanks for your reply Chris I think the quote came from Transco through BG new connections, I tried speaking to Tranco when I got the original quote, they were the most unhelpfull people you could immagine.
I desperately need to find alternatives as the new quote is-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------£8841.00

Inflation from £2,100 to £8,841 in 7 months! That's a bit steep even by BG standards. They're obviously trying it on, thinking they've got you over a barrel. In theory this area of gas work has recently been opened up to competition, so find some alternative contractors.

Since you've presumably gone ahead with preparatory works on the basis of the earlier quote, I would have thought you had some grounds for insisting on something a little more consistent, especially if an effective monopoly still exists.

Unless it's a genuine mistake, this is ripe for Trading Standards involvement.

Oh, and Ofgas, or whatever they call themselves these days.
