Gas Torch Bottle

I've bought a Rothenberger Superfire torch with propane bottle which I successfully assembled in order to test and make sure everything works.

My question is, should I be able to take the cylinder off the torch when not in use? Do they self seal? I cannot find anything in the literature.

The bottle should have a plug to screw into thr top to protect the valve assy from damage.
