Hi, following on from my post earlier in the week, the posts are level and secured to the wall ready for me to build the gate

I’m just building a standard z frame gate with 22mm thick timber screwed to the frame

Both posts are perfectly levels and the measurement between the face of the posts is 81cm

What width should I build the frame? Should I allow 5mm either side space? So build the gate 80cm wide?

I’m using standard T hinges and a barrel bolt for the locking of the gate

Not built one in a while so just refreshing my memory

Cheers

Hinge side is most stable but latch side can expand contract 10-20mm over the year . I would leave 10mm either side in dry timber . Gives room for adjustment .

my thoughts as its relatively dry 19mm gate stops and 12-15mm gaps each side
is the gate a framed gate or a feather edge ledge and braced styled gate ??
ledge and braced =rails a 15mm gap each side but cladding overlapping 5 to 8mm each side [so face 10 to 16 mm wider than frame] allowing easy shaving to fit for expansion
