They found that 10 deaths were from pre-existing illnesses; in 20 cases the vaccine has not been ruled out; in 2 cases the vaccine is possibly the cause of death and in 3 the vaccine is most likely to have been the cause of death.

During the ramp of the AZ vaccine, it was predicted that AEs would occur in 1-2% of people as this is the norm for any injection. Huge resources were put in place to collect the feedback and use machine learning to process it. The aim was to rapidly spot trends and learn any lessons as they came in.
