Not sure about "wrong " render - has it been coated with one of those "Lasts a lifetime" sprayed on plastic coatings

Basically you`ve got a 100 year old mass of damp brickwork hidden by a skin of c-rap : When it`s all removed in and out ( you then have to insulate to a modern standard because you`ve removed so much plaster AFAIK ) and address any other wood related problems caused by the damp - Me personally , I wouldn`t want it if it was an inheritance
