Glass glue,needs to be strong

The glass off my wifes glass top coffee table has come off.
It is only held by glue in the centre(about 2" diameter stainless steel disc) on the head of a statue.
The glass itself is about 2 foot across so you can see it has to be very strong.
The only other alternative is to drill the glass and drill and tap the disc.
Is this possible? any help appreciated.

Aquarium places use high modulus silicone to glue tanks together - you'd be better off looking at the glue used to bond rear view mirrors to car windscreens although I believe that may just be a form of cyanoacrylate (superglue).

we use a type of adhesive to bond glass bevels on to paines of glass this is Uv curing a facial sun lamp activates the glue a treat it also dries compleatly clear and bubble free if applied properly.
