glazing bricks??

so.... im putting a wood stove in my fireplace and i was planning on tiling the inset, but my wife has other plans..
she wants the bricks left exposed but they really are not in great visual condition.
is there anything that will stand the heat and seal/glaze the bricks to make them more appealing??

also the plaster will be removed around the fire surround once my new one arrives so i can see how much to take off.this will also need glazed!

any help much appreciated

I cleaned the brickwork and re-pointed as foxhole suggests it looks authentic.

I've used brick acid and it has turned out quite well. Just a bit of pointing to do and job is a good one.
I was also Thinking about applying a light coat of lime wash just to seal the bricks.
