I am living in a 3 year old house which I have been in since built. I had intermittent hot water from the bath for the first 2.5 years and then finally Wimpey got their act together and organised (at my bequest) a dual site visit between the Plumber and Ideal boilers so that they could argue the toss as I was sick of listening to one blaming the other. Long story short, the boiler had no problem but the system was found to have a faulty pump. Even though on previous occasions the system had displayed an error code which was unrecognisable.
After the pump was changed I could run a bath and have central heating on and the water was hot.
Tonight I have tried to run a bath and the water was warm for 10 secs then cold. I ran downstairs and turned the thermo for the radiators down ( a trick that previously had worked) and went back upstairs to try the bath. Only to find that the heating had come ON despite the reduction in the thermo temp and the water was still stone cold.
What else can I try? I am at the end of my tether and to be honest would love to rip the thing out and replace but I have no money to do this!! HELP??

a boilermate 200? where do we start......!!!coud be the sensors,pcb or both, look at the back of the big panel that covers the boilermate and it has instructions to check the sensors,if one is faulty it will read an error code, this usually seems to be quite accurate. Also a faulty pcb can bring the heating on with no demand!

There is no error message displayed on the panel at the minute. It only seemed to happen the once and then never again.

The PCB board may be faulty - is it just a case of switch out or is there any test I could try before I buy one?

To be fair I'm totally disappointed with the thing. I have zero experience of plumbing issues until this pile of junk came along. I don't get for instance how the kitchen and bathroom taps can be red hot yet try to run a bath and it goes stone cold. My sister in law lives across the street, has same system and her water is red hot - to the point I'm not sure if the safety thing is on hers to prevent scalding children!

I'm losing the will to live with the thing as you can see!

to find the error codes you have to press a little button on the pcb and scroll through, i think u have a more modern version than the ones i deal with, but should be the same,cant believe they still produce them!! removed one only yesterday from a property, the owner was glad to see the back of it!

I know the very one.

I think they stopped producing them after Taylor Wimpey bought a job lot. Company to my knowledge is bust but the Service side remains operational although will not come to Scotland.

good luck with this! does sound like sensors to me though! well i hope so as this is the cheapest option!! pcb i think is around £250!

if the downstairs taps have hot water there is nothing wrong with your bolermate, more likely to be a shower valve nrv passing.

but a small amount of water will be hot until the senors take over, more water in a bath!

What is a shower NRV? Excuse my ignorance.

I have a Bristan jet panel which has worked inadequately (can get a shower with poor pressure and no jets) since installation.

nrv= non return valve, your shower will have two one on the hot and one on the cold, could be the hot one has stuck open causing cold or luke warm water to come out the hot tap, do you have hot water down stairs?

I do have hot water downstairs yes. This has never been an issue downstairs, purely with the bath.

ps the shower is not in the bathroom if that makes any difference? it's in the ensuite.

then I would suggest your boilermate is ok and the problem is with the plumbing
as your house is only three years old you might have a thermostatic mixing valve under the bath, worth a look..
