Global mass rearmament

They were the symptoms and not the cause.
Chernobyl contributed to the fall of the Soviet Union by damaging the economy and eroding trust in the Soviet system. Most certainly it was Gorbachev that led to the downfall and collapse of the Soviet Union he downgraded the military from super power status by reducing the USSR and dividing it up into the various states. He is hated even today by Russians and was refused a state funeral. Only the `west liked him. So he was not a symptom as. you suggest but he was the cause of the dissolution of the USSR.

40 million Russians have no running toilet
The average Russian has a much better lifestyle than you have, you are once again listening to facebook. Even the outer villages in remote areas of Russia have running water and toilets

The fall of the Soviet Union was inevitable, it had served its purpose and its peoples wanted change, the West had become more Liberal and those in the east weren't immune to that.

Sorry you are wrong, even today 68% of Russians regrett the dissolution of the USSR. Its people didn't want change it was Gorbachev that wanted change. How do you mean by it had served its purpose?

The USSR was a flagship communist country that people liked, life was easier for them when the communist party was in charge. They didn't have to worry over paying for things that they no longer can afford. Only the people of Moscow and St Petersburg are happy to be westernised, the outer regions are not happy at all.

They regret it today but back then they they thought different.
They have seen the fallout from dissolution, western carpet baggers and Oligarchs who looted the Russian peoples assets, a lot of these assets were welcomed in London and New York.
Maybe Putin is a politician who uses his position to enrich himself, thank goodness we don't have politicians in the UK like that.(sarcasm intended)

Gorbachof tried unsuccessfully to reform russsia but the built in tendency to corruption and laziness was too much. Tnen Boris sold off the state assets for a song.

exactly, he got a nobel peace prize but was not liked at all because of his radical views. It's similar to North Korea and South Korea. You couldnt convince either side to join the other, The kim regime talk about reunification of the two sides, sure as hell no south Korean would want that.

Not everybody thinks that at all. Plenty of commentators have expressed the view that if Putin had met determined opposition earlier the situation would not have got to where it is now.
really put these links up with evidence of where this determined opposition would come from

Maybe they have more important priorities.
Communism took Russia from being a 3rd World country, to defeating the Nazis almost singlehandedly and then beating the Americans in the space race.
A lot of people in Russia also starved to death. Forget that little snippet?

Which one? A lot of famine was spread accross the Baltics and wasn't just Russia. Crop failures and drought also caused a lot of food shortages. WW1 was another one caused by having to feed a huge army, during both wars Britain had rationing and food shortages. You have to be more specific to what you are talking about and not just jump in with a load of old twaddle and blame communism.
