Hi
I didn't prep the woodwork properly last time i glossed the staircase bannister, skirting and ballustrade and then used what was probably a poor quality wilko gloss.
A few years later and it is really yellow and can peal if you rub it
Although I did the same no prep in the bedrooms but used Dulux water based quick dry Gloss and that is still bright white and hard so does not get tacky and come off.
I am though now trying to prepare for repainting the discoloured and pesling surfaces and started by using 80 grit sandpaper then 100 but when do you stop sanding ? my aim was to feather in when the paint stopped peeling with 120 grit but this is difficult as random parts keep pealing.
I have purchasing some Zinneser peel stop to use over it and then was going to use Zinneser aqua based primer before finishing with dulux quick dry gloss as this is also water based.
Any suggestions ? should i be sanding down further or am i doing it right.
Appreciate your help
