We are at the end of our tether with a boiler problem!
1) Boiler is Glow worm micon40FF
2) There is an intermittent fault with the heating, sometimes it comes on, sometimes it doesn't. it cuts out probably 3-5 times a day. There are 3 main 'things' that happen:
a)The 'reset' light stays constant and the 'burner on' light flashes. b)Another fault is that the reset light comes on and stays on.
c) Another is that the reset light and burner light are both flashing, but the burner light flashes faster than the reset light.
The only way to get the heating to work again, is switch the boilers temperature knob to 0 and then back up again. The boiler then refires and will come on. It may refire 2 or 3 times though before it comes on sometimes.
3) We asked B.Gas to come out and fix it. After 3 different PCB's, thermister, pressure pump, diverter valve and new external digital timer the problem still persists. B.Gas gave us our money back and washed their hands of us! Called glowworm who did the same.
4) Problem started about 6 months ago getting worse and worse until it cut out 3 times a day in the end and thats when we called B.Gas out in september
5) It happens intermittently with no pattern to time of day or anything
6) Only other thing I could add is that when the first engineer came out, my husband noticed that when the initial pcb as removed, you could see that on of the fuses had been burnt out. One repairman said it may be something to do with the way the electric is coming into the house (?!) but he wasn't sure. we have a semi detached home, 3 bedrooms, 9 radiators. boiler is max 5 years old as its a new home and we are only the second owners.
If anyone can help it would be very very much appreciated! Glowworm have said that they don't know what the problem is and to get a new boiler - but we are reluctant to spend thousands on a new boiler when there may be a risk of the new one having the same fault??
many thanks!
