Thanks guys :D
I had the same problem ie DHW staying on and sometimes over-heating
Sometimes not coming on when demanded
Just looked and the pin is sticking
Will buy some WD40 tomorrow
Or is there something better?

If the pin is sticking change the cover assembly BEFORE it leaks and damages the switch.

Oh right
Thanks again
Mark

Do I need the cover AND the diaphram?

Thanks
Mark

Hi Gas Guru
Thanks for previous help
Now got more problems
replaced diaphram and cover as recommendeAll ok for a while
Thanks again
Now DHW doesn't always get very hot
Seems to be loosing pressure - I keep topping it up - cant see a leak

Any help very much apreciated as always

Mark

Check safety valve pipe through outside wall is not dripping. Check the pressure doesn't get towards 3 Bar when rads are hot.

Is it just the bath tap that doesn't get hot..often caused by flowrate too high otherwise:

Open hot taps fully and measure the gas sonsumption at the meter..see the faqs for more details..post the Kw answer.

Gasguru,
Prob 1
DHW gets only luke warm from any tap about half the time
turning on and off sometimes cures it.
Not sure, but don't think it ever gets to max temp when tap is turned on full.
Flow seems to be a bit jerky.
Prob 2
Not noticed pressure getting towards 3
Keep pumping it up to 1.5
(I have had to replace the pressure gauge as pipe fractured during last maintenance)
Looked at outlet pipe last time it dropped pressure but no evidence (possibly it had dried up by the time I noticed)
Will look at FAQs
Thanks
Mark
and try to learn how to measure gas flow rate

Gasguru,

I read the meter and with the water running at the tap but not as hot as it should and be flow rate was 2580 cu m per hour.
The radiators always seem to get very hot

Thanks once again
Regards
Mark

( the heating pressure seems to have settled down now to a stead 1bar cold 1.5 hot )

Your calculations appear to have gone awry...the boiler should be consuming around 3.1 m³/hr. Perhaps you mean 2.58?

Do you mean the heating comes on when the hot water is being used?..if so the diverter valve is likely to be sticking/siezing or the valve actuator has a problem.

Gasguru
Thanks for reply
Thought that sounded like a lot of gas
Gas flow seems to be same whether or not DHW is at correct temperature

No, heating comes on at correct time, was just commenting that the temp of the radiators always seems to be very hot and doesn't go luke warm like the DHW.

So, if the gas flow is the same, hot or warm, what would that point to
(something easy and cheap for a change please)

Thanks
Mark

If the rads do NOT get warm when the hot water is being used AND the gas consumption is correct (in DHW mode) the heat energy MUST be absorbed by the cold water.

Feel the hot pipe directly below the boiler...see if this is hotter. The boiler should be able to fill a standard bucket to the brim to bath water temperature in a minute.

It's possible you have a mixer tap(or shower) that is allowing cold water to pass to the hot pipework even when the fitting is turned off. Isolate the cold feed on the boiler isolating valve and check water stops at all the hot taps.

Hi Gasguru

You are right, of course,
looked more carefully
the heating does come on when not commanded
But now got worse
Hot water cycles very hot to very cold at intervals of about every 10 seconds
Heating still seems to work on its own
Diverter valve? or something that signals it
Shower u/s now so hopefully an easy fix

Thanks for continued help
Mark

Gasguru
Can you help

Hot water cycles very hot to very cold at intervals of about every 10 seconds
Any ideas of how to fix or what I can test?
Could it be another diaphram operating a switch like the one I replaced before?
Heating still seems to work on its own
( although I can hear a the pump switching on off fairly regularly when the room has got almost to temp, but perhaps it did that before)

Diverter valve? or something that signals it maybe???

Thanks
MArk
PS
is it normal for pressure to go from 0.5 cold to 1.5 hot?
