Some months ago I decided that my pedestal mat around the loo needed fixing to the floor tiles so I bought a roll of carpet fixer tape which is supposed to secure mats etc. This had a sort of glue on the back and worked well, so I renewed it each time we washed the mat. We finally decided that the mat wasn't needed (Mrs V. thought it was not very hygienic!) so I've binned it, but where I'd fixed the tape I was left with glue marks. I tried everything to remove these (including fine sandpaper) without success. Any ideas? The images show where I tried to rub off with sandpaper (brownish residue, so no good) and one of the side ones still remaining. I suspect that I need a solvent of some kind. glue2.jpgglue stain1.jpg

I'm no expert but wonder about nail varnish remover (acetone)?

What else have you tried?

I haven't tried any liquids yet as I'm waiting to see if anyone here has any bright ideas. I'll put acetone on the list, so thanks for your suggestion. I dare say that there's some wonder potion that I've never heard of to do this kind of job, so let's see.

Probably turps, brasso or any spirit based product should remove it.

Lighter fuel dissolves most adhesive , soak for a minute and wipe with tissue , repeat if necessary .
