Gold leafing my railings...

I am gold leafing the finials on my iron railings...Any advice?

Does foil weather well?

Would have thought paint would be more long lasting.

Gold paint is the normal procedure
Leaf is stuck to the surface with size, it won’t last outdoors

I am using real gold leaf (23.5K) which will last...Imitation gold (copper) will not last... Thought about paint but thought gold leaf was worth the extra expense for a better looking result

I don't think you need to with 23.5K gold, but I think with less than this you would need to use a sealer..at least this is my understanding from what I have read

May I ask how much it costs to 'leaf' a finial?

Yes that's paint on the left...

Each finial is taking two leafs.. Each leaf costs about £1.10
