My older son wanted an x-box for Christmas but we couldn’t get one, meanwhile younger son built a computer and now older son wants one instead of the x-box.

I’ve bought him an X570 motherboard and a Ryzen 5 5600X processor.

I suggested a 1660 graphics card same as his brother but he suggested we go half’s on a more expensive one.

Now I’m lost, there are just too many and I’m not clued up enough to choose one.

So for about £450, where should I be looking? Thanks :)

Have you considered 2nd hand. I picked up a radeon r9 290x for £90 for my youngest and it runs most modern games at a really good frame rate.

In the 2x you mention the Nvidia is much better, it consumes less power, is quieter and doesn't get as hot, it's also faster.

Radeon used to have a good price performance ratio, but now they are similar in price

Only problem is finding the Nvidia in stock

Not really, I got a 2nd hand phone recently and that didn’t go well so would rather buy new.

So the RTX3060? I still can’t see the difference between those and the 3070 other than the price.

They have the next generation archatecture over the 1660, does the 2060 have ‘Ray tracing’ over the 3060.

The 3060 3070 are the latest from Nvidia, and have much better processing ability and are significantly faster, and will be more future proof, imo they will be very good for 3-4 years, where as the 1660 is already at the end of its life cycle

It's a resolution decision really. If you're the kind of person who rocks a 24" 1080p 60fps £100 monitor the 3070 may be a bit of a waste. Some people care more or less about peripherals so it's a personal choice.

I'd say go 3060Ti for 1080p at your budget, consider spending a little bit more and grabbing the 3070 if your native monitor resolution is higher and you want to future-proof a bit more.

I think the 3060 tI is the way to go. He has a 27” 165mhz Asus monitor, not sure on the FPS.

These sites are good
https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-3060-Ti-vs-AMD-RX-5700-XT/4090vs4045

and also some sites give you products by game... searching ...
e.g. https://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri

the Cyber Punk game is new, so presumably one of the most graphics intense
https://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/requirements/cyberpunk-2077/13169
says:
Cyberpunk 2077 Recommended Requirements
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 or AMD Ryzen 3 3200G
  • RAM: 12 GB
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 590

back on here... https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1060-6GB-vs-AMD-RX-5700-XT/3639vs4045
the RTX is even better.

So yeah, but the most expensive you can afford, and you should be OK!
