Greenland Vs NATO

They were on about Greenland on the radio this morning

I thought Greenland was quite close to the US
Going by an Atlas map ( deceiving)

It’s actually over a 1000 miles ( 1400 ?) from the nearest US port in Maine

I assume trump is aware ?? :giggle:
That's rash of you.

Do you know the distance between Russia and USA?

55 miles, mainland to mainland.

2.5 miles between closest islands.

You can walk it in icy weather.

If only.....

This might be a question for the seafarers on here.

Canada claims the Northwest Passage as their internal waters because it runs between Canada's arctic islands and the Canadian mainland. The USA claims it is an international strait. Who is right?

In 1988 the countries struck a pragmatic truce: the US agreed its icebreakers would ask Canada’s consent before using the Passage (and Canada would grant access), all “without prejudice” to the legal positions of either side. The solution lies not in one side capitulating to the other’s legal stance, but in forging a new framework that transcends the old sovereignty-versus-transit debate. Washington and Ottawa should negotiate an updated Northwest Passage Security Charter that explicitly marries Canadian sovereignty with joint strategic management of the waterway. Key elements could include: opencanada.org

Legal status unresolved.

This seems to be the narrowest point between the mainland and an island; the Dolphin and Union Strait. It is about twenty miles wide, but there are a some small islands in between.
