Just moved into a new home & we have a Greenstar High Flow 440, installed (running on LPG).
As for the user manual, (I will wait for the film).
Does anyone know if it can work just like a combi, ie only switches on when there is a demand. As it is currently storing hot water for instant use (which is brilliant), but we do not need this, especially as it is making the room to warm.

Your'e not Tuddenham/Westerfield way by chance??

If you google Worcester 440 you should be able to download a user manual- I can't remember if this is possible

You can turn off preheat if the 440 has been fitted with the optional 2 channel progammer in the facia. If yours has a blank, it is preheat all the time.

Boilerman...No
I have a manual, but so many other things to do, just dont have time to read it.
Gavinda..the eco light is on, when I press it, it does not feel like a switch & nothing happens.

Pretty sure you just depress the button for about 5 seconds and it should light up to show 'Eco' mode is on.

Just read the instructions, eco mode seems to stop the boiler firing if the timer is set to off.
Where what I want is to not have the water stored at all.

It think that's what it means, the water will only heat 'on demand'. Or does that just turn the hot water off entirely? I'm not totally au fait with these boilers tbh and the manuals that I have for this don't have the customer instructions, just install and maintenance/ Repair stuff.

Sorry.

You are failing to understand how this unit works!

If you use it when the store is cold then the DHW output will be considerably reduced.

If you can live with that then fine but you do need the preheat on to get the best performance.

In theory you could have the preheat timed to the likely use times. The better latest boilers will do that.

Tony, I thought you would come to the rescue, I have a timer that can be set to the usage times, so basicaly its on at 7.30am off at 8.30pm. Its just that the utilty room is so warm. Great in the winter & for keeping the wine warm, it just seems so much wasted heat in the summer.
Not been in the property a week yet, but do like the boiler after my forever tripping Potterton.

ECO INDICATOR
NOTE: If your boiler has an in-built fascia
mounted programmer and the mains supply
is interupted, the ECO button will need to
be reset by pressing and holding for three
seconds.
When the ECO button IS lit the pre-heated
tank of hot water is turned off, but the boiler
will supply hot water as a normal Combi boiler.
It will take longer to obtain hot water at the
tap in ECO mode as the boiler is not
maintaining a supply of hot water for
immediate use.
When the ECO button is NOT lit the boiler is
in pre-heat mode for hot water.
Hot water will now be available at the tap
almost immediately as the boiler constantly
maintains a tank of hot water ready for use.
From the user instructions

To clarify for those who dont know how this boiler works!

The boiler does not keep a tank of "mains water" hot!

It keeps a tank of "heating" water hot and this is used as part of the water heating source.

The tank is actually in the return circuit from the plate heat exchanger. Until this is warm, the hot water output will be poor so if the preheat is not on then the hot water performance will be poor for perhaps five minutes until its become warm.

My boiler had been off, Red light is on, tried to reset as your notes, nothing happened. Now have red light off boiler running ie flame on but no demand so must be heating the tank.
When the boiler is set to on red light is on, there must be pre heated water as its instant hot.
I have read the on line instructions & did not see what you pasted.
When the boiler is in the off phase (by timer) the water is only warm.
I have an inbuilt timer/programmer.
I will cary on playing about.
