Hi,
I've had a search through the site, and can't find a definite answer to my query...
I live in a 1930's Glasgow sandstone terraced house. When we moved in 18months ago, we had the carpets lifted and original floorboards sanded back and varnished. Very nice. Anyway... the fact that all we have between us and the gap under the house is joist/floorboard.. makes it a bit cold in the winter months... So the question is...

Is there any reason why I can't insulate under the ground floor between the joists with a decent insulating material (like the recycled stuff you can get from B&Q), and pin it properly.?
I've read people mention condensation, etc. but not if that is a consideration here?

Note: I'm only under insulating the hallway and front living room - i.e. not a kitchen or bathroom, etc.

Any help would be great.

no probs, you can either fix chicken wire or zig-zag some straight wire fixed with staples, and that will stop the insulation falling down.

better method though would be to fix strips of batten to the sides of the joists, and use these to support rigid insulation, which will be more effective than any of the fibrous types.
Celotex or kingspan type for best performance/ polystyrene sheets if you're skint. Go for minimum 75mm thick if poss.
