Ground/Wall Anchor issue

Yesterday at 1am my motorbike was stolen from my parking bay at the back of my house. Luckily it was recovered with a fair bit of cosmetic damage but otherwise ok. I've decided to beef up my security by adding either a ground anchor or wall anchor to chain my bike to.

I'd prefer to fix it to the ground if possible, however my parking bay is a resin bound surface. I've searched online and can't find anything about how to fix into a resin surface so I'm wondering if it can be done or if it risks ruining the resin.

The other option is fixing to the external wall of my garage. It's 100mm block with a concrete render skim, although there is a pier in the middle of the wall so it's 200mm thick there. Could I fix into the wall securely enough for an anchor? If so, would I need to strip the render off the wall to have the anchor base flush to the block work?

You could build a dead weight anchor.

Get a large bucket, something like a plasterers mixing bucket and fill it with a strong concrete mix.

Suspend one end of a heavy duty security chain into it, with a bit of rebar or a chunky bolt poked through the end, coil some brick reinforcement mesh in there before the pour.

Get a separate chain for the bike and just padlock the two chains together.


If you want to use the wall, drill into the pillar and use a resin fixing to secure your anchor bolts, or drill all the way through and put a big washer and nut on the end.

I would go with deluks all the way through the wall option. But whatever chain you use make sure it is at least 19mm thick links, bolt cropper proof as the jaws can not open wide enough.
Look up pragmatis anti pinch pin, and if long enough it will go through your wall and through the bike frame somewhere

I used to use alarm padlocks , they use movement sensor so sound as soon a touched . Fit one or two anywhere on bike or chain .

I got a huge ringbolt for my ground anchor, it is about 2 inch diameter, forged, and I believe made for the scaffolding trade. For your home, you can use a much heavier grade of chain, since you do not have to carry it around. Square section chain is harder to cut than round.

I am sure that fixing to concrete in the ground is stronger than a wall, though I suppose you could have a bar or plate on the inner side.

An anchor that you might trip on, paint bright red.

Lever- type padlocks are more resultant to weather and some technical attacks than cylinder types. The ERA six lever is big. Put your fixings where they are awkward to reach.

You can also put a PIR chime alarm, with the detector pointed at your bike, and out of reach, with a sounder inside the house.
