Guess the fault

Out of intrest, under the 17th all such elements must have a earthed grid. Was this the case under 16th?

It seems the closest reg was 554-06-02

[paraphrase]Underfloor heating cables shall be "capable of withstanding mechanical damage under the conditions which can reasonably be expected to prevail during it's installation"[/paraphrase]

TTC, do you do all your testing in socks ????

Ed

Nah, Do you think I'm stupid?/ I held the voltmeter, the chippie and the builder-director were in their socks doing the 'live' testing .

It was a bit like the Braniac experiments with an electric fence..

Edit: 701.753 stipulates fine earthed mesh (or earthed sheath) for bathrooms. Section 753 talks about UFH systems in general and does specify an earthed grid with a spacing of not more than 30mm must be provided above the heating element....
I may copy that and send it to the flooring manufacturer....

Here's a pic of the step with the 'hot' wooden floor

And a pic of the earthed mesh that the manufacturer supplied ( after much arm twisting)
