I've never been to India but I've seen it on the telly. I know this is potentially misleading, but I've seen filthy streets, dodgy food hygiene conditions, massively crowded towns, lots in disrepair, rubbish chucked in rivers by the ton, people dangling off the outside of train carriages.

Is there a conspiracy among TV companies to make them look nuts, or is the fact that every TV programme shows a pretty similar state of affairs because that's how it is?

They're currently trashing their world image by allowing the majority of telephone/online scam operations there, they generally pay a few quid to the local law enforcement and get left alone. If someone with an Indian accent phones, there's a high chance they're trying to steal your money.

So I've never been to India but, based on what I've seen, I won't be going and I'm pretty sure they have a pretty lax approach to health and safety and law enforcement. Do others think they're utterly civilised and this image is undeserved?

Is it true or a bit of a racist myth that many in India think that their date of death has already been decided, so whatever they choose to do can't kill them? I think this was stated by Jeremy Clarkson lots of years ago. If it's true then it would explain a lot of their attitude.

This youtube channel is based in Pakistan but I guess a lot of cultural attitudes are similar, as they were both one country previously.

Could the India thing be Hindu's and reincarnation - where the thought crosses ones mind when on doing something dangerous; if it goes pear shaped then better luck next time around.
