I would like to replace the wooden floor in my hall. How do you replace the boards that run under the staircase? Is it possible? Any help appreciated.

Depending on the type of your staircase, the 1st riser is normally a dummy piece & the last piece to be fitted.
If you can get under the staircase 1st thread and see if you can remove the glue block of woods (if any) inside which butted up to the riser with hammer & sharp chisel. There're many ways the first thread are fitted - glue, nails or screws.Have a look to see from inside how the 1st riser is fitted, you might be able to unscrew it from the newel post or if nails might pay you to smash it out then renew with new material. If you think you can remove the riser without damaging it then move it with a block of wood in front of the riser to protect it,then try and bang it out.Don't rush, take your time! Then put a timber support (say 4"x2") under the staircase string near the front and wedge it so the newel post lift of the floorboards, then remove your floorboards. If you can't do any of the above then cut the floorboards to the staircase then put in extra floor joists to pick up the new floorboards butt up to it,then finish off with moulding on the bottom of the riser unless it's carpet.
