I have several halogen spotlights at home (240v type) which keep going off and coming on again. For example in one room there are seven and two of them keep going off and coming on again by themselves every few minutes. I have changed the bulbs to no effect. Has anyone any ideas as to what could be causing this to happen?

I think its down to heat and expansion of a loose fitting lamp, I cant think what else it could be. If it were 12V then yes its the thermal protection but in this case I can see no other reason....so, pull them down from their apertures and check all connections, remove the lamps and check how tight fitting they are. How old are they?

I've changed out the connectors on a couple of the faulty lights (and the bulbs) but it doesn't seem to have made any difference - the connectors seem tight fitting enough but it must be some sort of heat related problem in my view.
The fittings etc are around 5 years old.

Any other ideas anyone?
