Hi,

I am in the process of renovating my bathroom and we have 3 halogen spotlights installed rather than the usual 1 average light in the centre. My builder has installed it. I have noticed though that twice, a halogen light bulb has blown out (both from different spotlights). Why is this happening?

Thanks.

Bear in mind you have 3 lights, so they will fail 3 times as often.

Things to check:
Are the lights covered in insulation above? They shouldn't be.
Are they the correct wattage for the fitting?
If there are transformers (12v lamps), are they well ventilated?
Is there excessive vibration in the ceiling? Lamps dont like this.
Are you using cheap lamps? These will fail sooner.
Are there fire hoods? These will hold heat, making lamps fail quicker and probably aren't required (what rooms are above?)

Or perhaps the lights just dont like you? ;)

Oh and as all electrical work in bathrooms is notifiable:

Did your builder certify the work he did?
and
Did he notify the local authority that he has done electrical work in a bathroom?

See here for why electrics and the law

for some reason i thought this was a kitchen. same rules apply though.
