Hi, I have a 240v angle grinder gone dead. Done the basic supply/ fuse checks.
To save opening up the casing to check power at the switch, can I test across the brushes leads, as its just the two caps to take off.
Should there be a reading of 240v here (with sw on)?
If so this will point me to the brushes themselves or motor fault.
Cheers Ian.

i'd be much more inclined to believe it was a flex fault than a motor fault.

Test the lead for continuity before doing any live testing

In fact, do not do any live testing. You should be able to identify the fault location with a continuity tester.

when my grinder failed the flex and switch were ok, but a wire disssapeared off the switch output and returned to the brushes, this was open circuit and i assume it was some sort of overload possibly thermal, unfortunately i was unable to access where it was and most likely unable to get the part anyway.
This was diagnosed with a continuity tester.
I wouldnt recomend working on it live and more so with a disc fitted

Thanks for that, I take your point about not working live.
Similarly, is one brush fed from the neutral wire, and the other sw. live, for continuity testing from the plug to the motor to check everything on the supply side.
