Hi,

First post so appologies if this is a frequent question.

In a fortnight I move into a new property, quite excited as it's my first home (apart from renting). Anyway I have a 30" LCD TV I want to wall mount.

As I'm not in the property all I can establish is that the walls are dry lined. What are my best options for mounting the screen? Purcahse a stud detector and try and find a convenient horizonatal baton?

Any tips on this subject would be really appreciated.

What mounting arrangement are you proposing to use? Does the TV come with its own wall hanging kit? (I'm going to get a an LCD TV soon but haven't got it yet so I don't know the answer to this one).

If it's possible try and mount it on an external wall. You can use long screws to go through the wall lining and into the blocks. I have found drilling a deep hole and then using straight rawplugs (the "cut to length" style) perfectly adequate.

If you put it on an internal wall, you may be lucky enough to find a horizontal baton but I'll bet it's not in the right place. Plasterboard walls don't like forces acting to pull out of them. A 30" LCD is going to be a fair weight so - depending on what fixing arrangement it comes with - I'd be tempted to sit it on top of a short length of wood fixed to the wall with good plasterboard fixings. That will take the weight. The rear fixings will then just be used to hold the TV to the wall.

The instruction manual may also give you a clue as to the recommended methods.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm waiting for the wall bracket to arrive so I cannot comment on that at all as I haven't even seen what it looks like.

It will be mounted on an external wall fortunately. Is the void between the plasterboard and blockwork a standard measurement when it comes to dry lined walls or does it vary depending on the builders?

You could use a through rawlbolt type, then a metal pipe sleeve in the plasterboard void area to stop the plasterboard bending in when tighten.

You can get longer length or difference type, picture just a example.

Not really. The best way to find out is to drill a pilot hole and find out what the gap is.
