Hanging old gates on drive.

I have some old metal gates which I want to place half way up my drive.

There are walls on both sides. They don't quite fit, so I am going to use a wooden 3x3 post to make them wider.

What is the best way to do this?

Just drill and plug the posts to the brick, then fasten these to the posts?

Counter sink holes for them about 35mm gives you 80mm into brickwork, or get the 150mm screws.

There is no way that they will screw into my bricks. I need an SDS drill to make even a small hole.
