Hanging on plasterboard wall.

Does anyone know what weight can safely be hung on a plasterboard wall from one fixing? I've got something that I would like to hang and it doesn't feel too heavy (exact weight to follow) but before I go and let it pull out a great hole in the wall, I thought I'd check.
