Has 30 days credit for plumbing and heating work had its day?

Has 30 days of free credit on your work and materials had its day? Does payment "on the nail" work better for you? (new builds being the exception)
I personally find offering credit to lead + 30 days and arguments on the phone about the job long after its been done!
Most of my suppliers don't offer me credit and as I am not a bank I don't see any purpose in this and it just makes customers more hesitant to cough up.
What do you guys offer?

I didn't know that it still exists! If a huge sum of money/work involved, I would prefer to have a payment breakdown in stages. Otherwise I always make full payment once job is done by cash or bank transfer for larger sums.

I give people 14 days to pay. Hardly ever an issue, maybe get one or two a year who genuinely take the pizz. My suppliers are 30-60 days credit so I have no problem giving people time to pay

I dont give any credit any more, do the job get paid, I dont have time to chase people for money

As per Mike. I always told punters I exoeex payment BN immediately on completion, and the signed order also stated that. And, for supply and fit work, a significant deposit.

It seems odd that we may be expected to offer 14/28 days, when BG etc, who can afford it, don't

Yep... I just paid an electrician for a CU move 18 hours after he walked out of my front door. Meanwhile, half of large companies that pay me have me on 60 days, which can mean 89 days if just miss the payment cut-off date for the monthly payment run.

As a punter I'd feel guilty making any tradesman wait more than a day or two for payment.
The only thing that delayed my last payment was the wait for the engineer to send me his bill and bacs details.
