He says Chagos handover is an act of great stupidity.

Yet previously, when meeting Starmer at the WG, he had agreed it was a good thing!

Then, to add to the ridiculousness, Badenoch wades in and agrees with Trump!

It was a very good deal for Starmer and his Chinese masters.

I reckon he was made in China, they wrote the software in his little brain, programmed him to destroy the west. This is the only explanation that explains his bizarre behaviour.

If Trump has done a U turn on this, then we can just take a pause and renegotiate it.

But he was massively in favour last year.

It makes sense just to say that it's all Trump's fault and postpone ratifying the treaty indefinitely.

Win win.

The only reason we hung onto the Chagos Islands in the first place was because the USA wanted to build a base on Diego Garcia.

If Trump was so against us returning them, he should have said something last year, instead of supporting the deal. I would imagine Starmer would have been delighted to pass the buck.

Sad that the world seems to be going down an even more angry and divisive route, in large part due to the whims of a few men around the world.

The thing with Trump is, the way he acts is almost a win win for him. If people/countries capitulate then it's a win. If they don't, but they pull their proverbial socks up because of his actions/demands, both he and his entourage can put that partial result down to his methods.

Some say he's a genius, some the exact opposite. I suppose he's somewhere between, exactly where on the scale I don't know!

The deal states:

• The UK will hand sovereignty of the territory over to Mauritius and lease the Diego Garcia base from the Mauritian government over 99 years;
• It will ban other powers from using the islands around Diego Garcia without agreement with the UK;
• Mauritius will be free to arrange for resettlement of Chagossians on all islands except Diego Garcia;
• The period can be extended by a further 40 years, if both parties agree;
• Sir Keir said the average cost per year is £101m. Sky News analysis suggests the total cost could rise as high as £30bn;
• Both the Commons and the Mauritian parliament need to ratify the deal.

How is this a good deal for the UK?

I've never thought so. It was clearly agreed with the support of Trump, though. The only reason for us having the islands is for the USA to have a base. The only argument being made which I can sort of understand, is that it gives certainty and stops China sniffing around for the next 99 years. But I have not seen anyone explain that issue very well. What was Trump thinking when he signed off on this.

Trumpf usually U turns or chickens out. But it shows he doesn't expect Denmark to give up its sovereignty over Greenland
