13 billion in 1948 is what in todays money ??

  • Highest Recipient: Britain received about 24-26% of the total Marshall Plan aid distributed to Europe.

'Oh look, Trumps a draft dodger', yeah but so was Biden and you worshipped the ground he stumbled on.

'Oh look, Trumps mental, he got Iceland mixed up with Greenland', Yeah and Sir Keir mixed up hostages with sausages, but you worship the ground he creeps on.

Grow up and listen to yourselves, you really do look very silly.

And starmer only found out a few months ago that a bloke dressed up as a woman and claiming to be a woman is not actually a woman
3 judges had to inform him :giggle: :giggle::giggle:

He's also very good at giving certain people, and countries, the kick up the arris that they desperately need.

And ripping up the world order which has kept us safe for eighty years and made the USA the richest and most powerful nation in history.

I still don't know why he has done it.

Have you not noticed the shameful decline of the western world over the past couple of decades?
If so, then who do you think is responsible for this? Our weak, woke, leaders, perhaps?

Do you not think China, Russia, Iran and other despots were already in the process of ripping it up?. What's happening now has been inevitable for some years now.

Regardless of Starmers intentions, I'd rather see the UK aligned with the US, not the axis of evil, and possibly even less so the EU.

The western world has lived the last few decades with its head in the sand.
Oh, we cannot do that, we mustn't say this, because it might upset someone. Let's just all be nice to each other and sing 'imagine' whilst, China, Russia, India, Iran, the entire middle east, and 80% of the rest of the world have been saying "no thanks".
They will not admit it, but, Trump is casting a much needed light on their inadequacies.
They are beginning to wake up now that, Trump has told them it's OK to put your own country first.

'why did the USA encourage European military dependence after the Cold War'

The United States encouraged European military dependence after the Cold War to maintain its position as the primary global security guarantor, sustain transatlantic influence, and secure a loyal, technologically integrated bloc of allies. By discouraging an independent European defense identity, the U.S. prevented internal European conflicts, kept NATO as the primary security forum, and maintained a massive market for American defense industries.

Key reasons for promoting this dependence included:
  • Maintaining Hegemony and Influence: The U.S. sought to prevent the rise of a competing power center in Europe, effectively using NATO to retain strategic control over the continent’s security choices.
  • Preventing Intra-European Conflict: Continued reliance on American security helped manage insecurities surrounding German reunification and kept European nations from engaging in independent, potentially destabilizing, military actions.
  • Economic and Technological Interests: Europe’s reliance on U.S. military hardware and technology ensured that billions of dollars in defense contracts flowed to the U.S. defense industry.
  • Subsidized Security: While encouraging higher European defense spending, the U.S. still viewed its own military superiority as necessary for global stability, particularly as it shifted focus to other regions, such as Asia.
  • NATO Cohesion: Post-Cold War, the U.S. aimed to keep NATO relevant by directing European focus towards shared, U.S.-aligned priorities rather than independent European defense projects.
While the U.S. often criticized Europe for low defense spending, this "burden-sharing" rhetoric rarely translated into a desire for full European strategic autonomy, as a dependent Europe ensured U.S. leadership within the alliance.
