That is the perennial fight between interior design and a functioning system. The theory is proven as the rad in my son's room is opposite the window and it takes longer for the room to feel comfortable than the other bedrooms where the rads are under the window.

Agree. I don't plan to have long curtains in the room anyway so I'm not concerned. It's a 3 external facing solid wall room so I need that heat!

Our old house we moved into has all the rads nearest the centre of the house....it's very unconfortable heating.
The heat rises across the ceiling and picks up the cold air near the outside walls and windows (despite double glazing).
You can really notice the temperature gradient when you stand up.
It's gonna get ripped out soon and done properly.
In a new build with good insulation it should be so much of an issue.

I’ve lost count of the rental cottages we've stayed in that have a rad by a window. We end up screwing the curtains up and bunching them on the Windowsill so that the heat can get round the room.

Nothing worse than being cold while cottaging.

Never figured either,,whether its a physics thing,,more sense to heat cold air as it comes in?? Or just so you do not use up wall where you can put furniture

Well the latter is the reason I usually install or move rads under the windows

I disagree about Rads under windows, sometimes that is the correct place but not every time , you cant make a rule that says where to put a rad is correct, my own home some are under windows, not many though, in fact just thought about it and we have 14 rads and only one under a window, all up to how you use your home and what you want from your system

Better to notch the joists nearer the external wall/windows/end of joists.

As the room is still unfinished you could insulate the wall at this stage.
