Hi,

I have a bungalow at the end of a cul de sac.

The kerb is dropped across the width of house front and there is an existing drive to the right hand side with a wall to left hand side with a lamppost in front of wall.

Ideally i'd like a turning space given the location at end of the cul de sac.

I could knock that wall down and have 2 access points, but ideally I'd like fully open frontage.

Has anybody any experience of asking for a lamppost to be moved, is it a planning issue , and is it likely to cost an arm and a leg ?

I would like it moved maybe 3 metres along a path made up of large council type flagstones.

If the lamppost remained, would i be obliged to leave small nib of garden wall behind it ?

Current Layout

Where X marks location of lamppost

Thanks

WOW. I've not seen ASCII art since Usenet back in the 90's. :eek:o_O

Can't understand a character of it.

Anyway, lamp posts come under the council's highways dept and are not a planning issue. You need to ask them, and mentioning a safety aspect rather than that you would just like it moved will go down better.

Just to revive this thread ........

Has anyone any idea what cost I might be looking at to have a lamppost moved about 4 metres , the pavement is concrete slabs.

Would I be allowed to remove the wall behind the lamppost , so that the lamppost was within my open access of about 7.5 metres ?

Would i need to leave a nib behind the lamppost , giving me 2 separate entrances to drive ?

I have no clue, the only people who can answer your question are your local highways bunch. If I had to take a guess I'd estimate about £2000 minimum for a simple job (supply cable is long enough to reach new position, no ducting in the way of new position).

And if you lived up here you'd not get permission for such a wide driveway kerb drop. You would get 2 x 3.6m with a raised bit in the middle though.
