Hi, I’ve got a Hayter 13/30 lawn tractor and I need a picture of the how the linkages connect to the mower from the carburettor. Can anyone provide a picture of this? It’s got a Briggs Stratton I/C 13Hp engine. Cheers.

Do you mean ‘how the linkages connect to the motor.....or mower?’
If its the former, have a look at youtube, under ‘briggs and stratton governor linkages’.
Theres one by fmaguitarplayer that looks like t could help!
John :)

Hi, thanks. Had already found that YouTube video but I need to know how they connect to the mower and it’s not very clear on that. I have the one, which has the very thin wire with it, all connected. It’s the thicker linkage, which has a sort of looped section at the end that connects to the mower, that I can’t work out how to connect. I can send mower and linkage pic if needed.

Hi,

Some pics below. I found another video online and this helped. I am hoping I have refitted all linkages correctly but would be good if you could confirm this. One thing that now seems strange is that for the most part a change on the throttle (from low to high) doesn’t seem to result in any movement of the linkages and therefore any change on the top of the carb. This doesn’t seem right. When moving the throttle from its lowest setting the linkage accompanied by the thin wire moves. Similarly, when moving from the middle to the highest or choke position the other linkage moves and closes the plate in the carb. Any throttle move in between doesn’t appear to do much if anything. This makes me think it’s not setup right.

The linkages look about right to me.....dont forget, these engines are controlled by the governor, and the throttle setting depends on how hard the motor is revving.
If you can get the thing started up the maximum revs are around 3600 and the engine will maintain this. If the engine loses rpm due to load or whatever, the throttle opens to compensate.

Hi, I think this is now sorted. Thanks for the help.

Have another issue (with another mower) posted on separate thread.

I ordered a replacement carburettor for this machine. Having removed the original I could see it was a Walbro LMT 5-4993 so this is the part I ordered. However, the part I have received has a different configuration for the attaching the throttle linkage which doesn't seem right. I have now done more investigation and there appear to be different configurations for this part. I have included two pics - one shows the config I have received and the other is what I was expecting. The seems to be the only difference other than that some appear to have a fuel inlet elbow and some do not which I assume doesn't make much difference. Have I basically ordered the wrong part or is it possible to attach the linkages in another way to suit this configuration - or is it possible to change the piece the linkage attaches to on the carb (to that from the original). It is the black part circled that I am referring to.

Thats a bit of a bore....if you can, however remove the butterfly then the plastic shaft can be withdrawn and the original substituted. Are any small screws visible?
Can you refresh our memories.....what is the matter with the original carb? They are pretty robust as a rule.
John :)

Its only the choke, should be easy enough to rig something up to operate it even if its not from the seat...guilty of having that setup on my countax:)

I can't recall what the Quadrant looks like off a 13hp single fitted to the Hayter, its a long time since I've worked on one .
