HBTM,HBTM,HBTM.....HBTM!!!

Look at the road in the last picture I posted, the one where the road is still open.

On the right hand side of the picture, imagine the road carrying on up the hill. At the top of the picture, there's a wooden gate, then on the other side, the road carries on. There's a turning circle for a minibus and some parking spaces.

At the other end of the road, it's similar. There's a turning circle for the bus, but there's no gate, the road is "open" but only to allow access for a farm (at the bottom LH corner of the picture, you can just see a track coming off the main road that leads to the farm). I'll see if I can find pictures.

Ah. I should have explained (a lot of regulars know) that I have a few illnesses that may have been avoided, lessened or postponed if I were a lesser weight.

I've managed to shed six kilo's in the last week or so, it helps not sat behind the wheel of a truck all day or night. I've been a bit more active refurbishing a house and managed to get out on my pushbike, but I think a lot of it is down to diet as in what we eat, if I have a few Weetabix with milk I can't keep my eye's open, one of my mates had a food allergy test and doesn't eat any wheat derivatives and looks much better having lost weight.

Best wishes SS. Hope you have had a good day.

When I was 14 I was camping just outside Buxton with my sister, her husband and my cousin. We set out early morning to hike to the Blue John Caverns only to find they had closed half an hour before we got there!
Partly made up for it last Friday by visiting Cheddar Gorge and the caves.

Happy Birthday.

All the best people are 47 this year. 8)

But all the better people are 57 this coming week!

Happy Birthday, make the most of what life you have, I attended a friend of mines funeral on Friday, he had just turned 45.

Not another born on 10th August 1966?

Thank you everybody for your kind birthday wishes.

I had a very simple day in the hills of Derbyshire, and the village of Castleton but loved it nonetheless.

You can't beat the great outdoors!

Thanks. So still accessible, but no through road. At least we can still get there.

Oh yeah, you can get to both ends of the closed part of the road by car and park close by FOC.

Of course, it depends which bit of Cheshire you're coming from, but if you want to start at the top of the road, follow the signs to the Blue John Mine.

Pass the mine and park a bit further down. You can't go much further, as the bus turning circle is there and the gate separating the "open" road from the closed part.

If you want to start at the bottom of the road, head for Speedwell Cavern (drive down Winnat's Pass). When you get to the T junction, turn left, then drive as far as the bus turning point. You'll see Odin's Mine on the left. You can park there and look in the cave.

A bit further on and you'll see this gravity-defying tree:

Thanks for the very useful directions. It's been many years since we went to the Blue John Mines, so we'll probably be going out that way before long. Maybe this summer.
