I'm looking for help and suggestions on a recent problem. We've just moved into a new house so am not overly familiar with it yet.
Last week we had a leak from one of the toilets. That's ok now, we habe it isolated and as we plan to replace it soon are happy to leave it out of use for now.
Since then the header tank has kept slowly filling with cold water. I know exactly where it's going - one of the other toilets. It keeps overfilling and running into the bowl. I thought the flush in that toilet just needed adjusting so have tried that and no matter what level I set it at, it keeps over filling.
I've read a few posts about header tanks and most suggest constant filling is either hot water tank or a leak. I checked the water in the tank and it's really cold so I don't think it's the hot water and I don't think it's a leak as I know it's running into the toilet.
Does anyone have any ideas? I would really like some help with this one.

by header tank are you refering to the cold water storage tank in the loft?

I think so!

There are 3 tanks up there. 2 large and one small.

is it the toilet cistern that is constantly filling and over flowing?
Check the float valve maybe the ball is split?

It is the toilet cistern. It's not that old and is a pnematic flush. I have bought a new one as I thought that might be the problem but I'm not sure it is.

I really don't know if it's the toilet that is causing the tank to keep filling up or if the toilet is sime sort of run off from the tank and the problem is with the tank?

I am sorry, but you really aren't making any sense.

Turn off the supply to the toilet and then see if the tank keeps filling.

Thanks xr4x4! It seems so obvious now you say it but I never thought of it. I'll turn it off now and see what happens. :)

This is a another toilet, if you read the post.

I still don't get it! The obvious problem is that I it's the toilet valve passing, and it has an internal overflow. Simples. But why the heck is he going on about tanks in the loft? I

I think......the loo's are fed by a loft header tank, and the loo in question is allowing water to pass through its filling valve which either needs adjusting, a new washer or replacing.
I wonder if its one of the Grohe pneumatics with the posh fill valve?
John :)
