My Gfs mother had a heat exchanger system fitted - possibly samsung, will take a look. Are these easy to get serviced, if they require that, or repaired?

Which principle.......

They are a device which refrigerates the air outside the house and puts the heat collected from that refrigeration into the house for heating and/or hot water.

They have at least two and maybe three heat exchangers.

To say they work on the same principle is only correct in the broadest sense, they have more in common with a fridge freezer than what we would identify as a heat exchanger as part of a heating system.

If you want any help in the future can I recommend you wind your neck in & stop being pedantic.

No, they aren't the easiest to service, they need a specialist qualified engineer to maintain and service correctly

And the outside heat exchanger can become coated with ice on a cold damp day ( the sort of day when the system is most needed to heat the house ) and has to be defrosted. Either with electric heater or by reversing the system to take heat from the house to melt the ice.

Very expensive to get them serviced I understand and if they go on to rescue mode then the heating goes onto electric again very expensive. Bob
