Hello,

I have a newish boiler (Worcester Ri), which when i put the heating on seems to fire up for a minute or so then stops. I am guessing that i may have a problem with the actuator (BGMVSP-23). When i put the heating on and push in the switch at the front of the actuator it goes to the 'M' position, this is when the heating kicks in and after a minute or so it goes to the 'H' position which i guess means heating and the burner on my boiler then turns itself off! I can still get hot water and this morning when i turned it on i did get a little bit of heat in the radiators, but not much! We did have a power cut for a few seconds a couple of days back and i wonder whether it has caused the problem, i have tried turning everything off and starting again but to no avail -please help!!

Regards

It does sound related to the motorised valve. I have experienced problems with a 3port valve, where the actuator would move the valve to the CH position but the boiler would not light due to a faulty micro switch.
You can have a situation when there is a demand for both HW and CH and the valve will move to the mid position and you get CH under these conditions, but this is only until one or the other becomes satisfied. As soon as HW is satisfied the valve is supposed to moved to CH only. There seems to be many problems in this area because the valve will not go beyond mid position ( faulty motor, faulty micro switch No 1,faulty wiring, or stiff valve) or if it does and the boiler will not light its usually No 2 micro switch at fault.
It may pay you to use the search facility for '3port valve'
