hi Guys

sorry not quite central heating but hopefully i am in the correct section

New poster here looking for a little help.

i will show the problem with a series of images.

The apparatus is a spraybooth, and the problem is the gas supply

The problem is this valve switch type thing , the way it works is gas comes in from the pipe at the bottom
As you can see from the shape of the pipe, the gas will flow through one side first then when the switch operates it will flow through both sides allowing more gas through.

The booth has two different modes spray cycle/ bake cycle

on spray cycle this black switch/ relay what ever it is, remains closed letting less gas through to the burner.
When you switch it on to bake this switch is supposed to open the valve and let more gas through for the bake cycle the bake cycle requires a higher ammount of gas.

the switch appears not to operating and the gas supply is remaining on spray cycle ammount.

When i put my hand on the switch it feels quiet hot, i have had the actual brass valve assy in bits and the plunger is free and operating.

So what is the proper name for the black switch/valve/relay and where could i get one.

the assembled pipework and switch.

It's as Matt says.
Raises an interesting question about what qualification someone would need to work on that spray booth boiler thing. How many Kilowatts or Btu/hour is it on max? What make is it?

Whoever changes that valve legally has to test the rest of the machine, which would be fun without the Manufacturer's instructions :)

Whoever has been on it before has already made a pig' ear of the job judging by the electrical connections. There should be a din plug to the solenoid.
There are countless examples of such shoddiness in this 'grey' area of commercial/industrial equipment. I think CORGI had a classification, but not sure how far down the road Gassafe go. Same thing with OFTEC., and judging by some of the furnaces I have seen, they are just as uncontrolled. Eventually, HSE is probably the last line of protection, but by then it's too late

not sure what the btu is, it reaches around 65 degrees and runs for around thirty five mins on bake cycle.

the volume area the heat fills is around 7 meters long, 4 meters wides, 2.5 meters high.

The booth is hooked up to three large 45k propane gas bottles these bottles last me around two weeks.

that will d around 25 vehicles.

there would be no manufacturer's instruction's as the manufacture went out of business around ten years ago

I am most concearned by the lash up of a spacer to the right of the failed solenoid it look very much to me that a solenoid valve has already been removed from this location and a lash up of brass fittings used as a bridge I would be looking to carry out a FULL INVESTIGATION of this heater before doing any work or giving any advice !! ;)

i dont think that is the case, there is no evidence of any wiring that would have went to another valve.

That distance piece has just been inserted to equal the distance of the valve on the left hand side.

i have owned this equipment for over ten years and nothing has been removed from this section.

I've got to agree, I too think there has been been something taken out,
Maybe not another solenoid, but something
regulator for the spay cycle perhaps?,I don't know but agree with boilerman2 you should get it looked at profesionally, its not a DIY job

As a 'non-gas' type of person can I ask, isn't it illegal to have compression type fittings on gas pipework?

I can hear the distant sound of Blues and Twos already!!!!

Presumably this 'spray booth' could contain highly flammable paint /solvent vapour....

Any combustion-type heater potentially exposed to this obviously needs to be managed with a lot of care!

How are the flames in the burner and any vapour or paint aerosol kept apart? This needs a totally knowledgeable specialist. I'm not one.
