To cut a long story short....We have an over flow pipe coming through the ceiling into our shower, we moved in two years ago and could never figure out what its for just knew it had something to do with the boiler. About 6 months ago it started dripping an orange coloured water, we couldn't afford anmy repair costs etc to just left it as it only dripped when heating came on.
Yesterday boiler packed up, we have no hot water and heating comes on when it feels like it. We've just had a plumber round and while he was hear asked him to look at the overflow in the shower.
At first he couldn't figure out what it was for, then he relised it was the "prv"and can at any point when pressure in the boiler gets to much, release scolding hot water and he said it should be going to the outside wall...not into our shower!!!!
I'm so annoyed as either myself or my OH could have been serioulsy injured by this!
How do we find out who installed the boiler??? they should not be allowed to call themselves a heating eingineer!!!!

Is there a benchmark certificate or install label with the boiler info?

This is a very serious issue.

Pretty unlikely that there will be any record, but try contacting gassafe or corgi or even the manufacturers since it's installation may have been registered with one of them.

but to know if ther registered I'd need to know who they are wouldn't I?

looked through all the paper work from buying the property but nothing about who installed it or guarantees :(

Not necessarily - if you can find the serial number of the boiler on it somewhere, then this may have been registered with one of those companies previously mentioned.

From this record (if it exists, which I doubt due to it not being installed properly in the first place :? ) the number of the registered installer and hence the name can be gleaned.

Don't waste your time, the original installer won't give a monkeys, corgi / gas safe wont touch it, you'll just be giving yourself grief.

Tend to agree with ollski - you may be opening a can of worms here which could lead to all sorts of problems if the installation isn't safe (at tirsk, not to current standard etc etc), especially if it's in the loft. Think you'd be wiser checking it and getting it up to standardl
