Hello,

First time poster.

I hired and builder for a mew bathroom, to rip everything out repair damaged floor and replace everything bathroom suite, shower, screen, tiles floor and walls.

I paid £1500 half way through and £1500 is due at the end.

However the tile job is a disaster, I have thick patches of grout everywhere, its cracked and removing already after several days, tile have lip overhang etc I could go on for a while.

They where supposed to come on Thu morning they didn't, when the finally showed up they didn't know what needed fixing even though I sent a huge list and 15 pictures to the over of the building company.

They are due to come Monday but I believe they will still not be able to fix to a reasonable standard for example I have one wall tiled to the floor the other wall they left the skirting so whatever way they fix it it will look patched.

what are my options should they not be able to fix as I wish?

Also if they still don't turn up on Monday?

Any help please.

For starters, DO NOT hand any more money over - they have had enough. Only hand money over when you are satisfied that the job has been completed to your satisfaction.

I would suggest also checking out whats behind the bath etc - the plumbing and such.

It sounds like a cowboy job.

Take photo's now - close ups and all in ones. These are for a before they tried to remedy it.

Give them the opportunity to remedy the job.

Hi

thanks for your reply, I have taken lots of pictures i sent them to the owner of the company to explain my issues but I dont believe he even looked at these.

A friend who is tiler did and he said pretty much the same dont pay them, I guess my concern is they come put fix some of patch over other bits and then i think it looks ok.

My grout on the floor and walls is cracking and coming away after a few days does anyone know how that could happen?[/img]

So the reason I had my bathroom completely ripped out was i had a leak downstairs to my neighbours and my flooring got damaged.

Now 3 weeks into my bathroom projected bathroom suit in tiles down and my neighbour has water damage again!

Can I just tell then stop I dont want them on the job anymore and not pay the remainder?

well before you dump the builders say to them you want the leak sorted out, which is why you wanted it ripped out in the 1st place and replaced,if it is still leaking then they might not have done the job properly.

Thanks

They where out today and had to rip out most of the bathroom again.

The orignal problem was the waste pipe came away from the bath, there was a new waste pipe but on with the new suite.

This time the waste pipe came away from the connection further along after the sink so it was the bath and the sink water leaking out behind a boxed in area.

First question: This is the old waste pipe can they say its not their fault even though I had no issue with this until they started working?

If they said its the pipe surly by hiring them to completely gut and renew my bathroom its a given that they would replace and pipes the deemed old and risk worthy of another leak?

Second Question: Am I liable to fix my neighbours damage?

i personally would play dumb and say if youve priced for a ripout and a new bathroom installation then SURELY thats what you should have?
i would also suggest they pay for your neighbors damage as they are the so called experts who have carried out work on your system.

you dont expect any problems with a new install so soon.
