I have had a loft conversion with bi-fold doors put in. Between the builder and the door supplier, the gap between the bottom of the doors and chipboard floor is 10mm. There's finger pointing going on with both sides saying they did their bit right. So assuming it's not going to get sorted, I need to find carpet that will fit but doesn't look like room for underlay. Any suggestions?

Thanks

You can fit either a feltbacked capert direct to the subfloor, or you could have a regular carpet fitted directly to the subfloor, an alternative could be carpet tiles fitted to the subfloor with ply to raise the height if required.

Ideally you need to talk to someone that specialises or can show you a big range of carpet tiles if looking at this route as not so many places will stock the really nice designs from companies like Desso and Interfloor that are less known to be used in regular domestic environments but are totally suitable and can look amazing.

10mm won't be enough for any worth while carpet and underlay combo unfortunately.

An alternative would possibly be a LVT style floor such as Amtico, Karndean, Polyflor etc, this is likely to be the more expensive option, although also the coldest especially if its a concrete subfloor (not so bad if it a wood subfloor)
