I am thinking of fully boarding out my loft in my new build house (2017), however the builders of the property stated that the loft wasn't built for it and that it might struggle to support the weight of it.

I'm wondering if someone would be able to give me any advice on this and whether there's any truth to it. If so, would I benefit from strengthening the joists?

Thanks in advance!

Why do you want to board it ? Serves no purpose.

Presumably it's trusses, in which case all trusses are designed to be able to support some limited storage including boarding.

Perhaps the OP can't float across the ceiling when fetching the Christmas tree and puting the suitcases back up in the loft?
He has already been told it won’t take much weight .
