Help! No heating - thermostat wiring! CM927

The thing that eludes me is why are you messing about with a mains powered unit when a bettery equivalent would have sufficed (i.e. no need for a neutral)?

Because The CM927 was highly recommended and when we looked at the wiring it seemed we had a neutral - so no problems!
 
Think I've found the issue...

The Grey wire is just loose inside the boiler. Looks like it's never been connected!

Will wire this into the boiler Neutral supply and see how we go.

As suspected, Brown and Black are Live/SW-L

Thanks very much for the guidance. Glad I embarked on this mission now as the old thermostat wouldn't have been much cop the way it was wired.
