Hiya All

Right. I've just moved into a new house and I'm really stuck with how my system works.
I have the following.

An Ideal Icos HE24 boiler.
OSO (Unvented) Indirect 20RI pressurised tank.
A big red round vessell thingy.
Loads of pipes :-) and a WILO Gold RS60 pump.

What I don't understand is that even with the CH and HW off. There is a noise coming from the airing cupboard that can only be described as fan vent type of sound. But there is no vent there. I think the noise is coming from the pump. But why would the pump be operating even if the CH is off. If it's supposed to do this then surely it's going to cost a fortune in elecy bills.
Also the pump gets red hot. I haven't tried touching it when the whole system should be off.

Also. With the hot water. Any tips on how long it should be on during the day. Reading on the interweb the tank will re-heat itself completly in 30 mins flat, but it doesn't tell me how long it will keep the water hot for with the immersion off.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Kevin

Is the heating side open vent??

You may be having a lack of water @ the pump so check small tank in loft for water!!

BTW insulation on these tanks is very good so should last a long time ..

Hi Gasman

I don't know to be honest. There is no tank in the loft. I have the boiler in the kitchen and all the other gubbins are on the 1st floor in an airing cupboard.

Is there a pressure guage in the airing cupboard??
It should be just above 1 !!

Hmmm ,, I suggest you get a registered engineer to check it all over !!

The pump running could be the zone valve stuck in the open position !!

Sounds to me like you have a very small family with their own little air con system living in a little secret room in your wall spaces, i had one of these once, gased em out, the rotting little corpes were a bit of a problem though......
