Help Please!

1. Socket (7) this socket i assume is the final socket (the one located in the other room).

2. A single wire comes out the socket and goes left towards the fused connector that consoles the heated floor.

3. Two wires also go out the back of the socket towards the kitchen.

**** IMPORTANT UPDATE****

1. Since turning off everything in the consumer. unit.

2. Removing cover plates (4) and (7). To take pictures and check for loose wires (non seemed to be lose).

3. Refitting said cover plates

4. Turning Everything back on at the consumer unit.

EVERYTHING IS BACK WORKING AS NORMAL!

Including sockets 4, 5, 6 and 7.

* Very happy it's all back working but still concerned as I didn't find or rectify anything!

So still completely oblivious to what the fault actually was.

Not sure how to proceed now???

Is it even safe to leave on ? Or get someone out in the week to explain what happened and get them to check over it.

Sounds like it could have been a loose connection or as @pete01 said, faulty/dodgy mcb.

This

sounds like lose wires - BUT it would need to be 2 lose wires if on a ringmain as it looks like from pictures
or the screw is on insulation and a wobble disconnected / connected maybe

maybe the screws need a tighten on the sockets - and insulated screwdriver would be good to do that with

do you know a good electrician - other wise they may want to bump up the cost of a full ECIR
Electrical Installation Condition Report
Which may not be such a bad idea - but it could all get expensive

I actually want to go out today/this weekend.

1. So at the consumer unit I'm going switch "OFF" the power to the kitchen and all the other accociated sockets.

2. Leave on the other switch that's labelled socket's on the consumer unit "ON" (this only appears to power one downstairs sockets at the front of the house).

Keep using the 10 meter extension cable that's plugged this socket to power the fridge.

3. Call out someone next week to look at it. I'll have to ask around to see if anyone can recommend me someone.

Question...

It'll probably be a good few days before I call anyone out to do electrical checks.

When I'm in the house is it okay to turn on the effected sockets at the consumer unit.

Just to I have hot water , the boiler works, I can cook , have WiFi e.t.c.

I think a sensible middle ground would be turn it all on when I'm awake in the house.

Then switch if off at the consumer unit before bed and when I'm out the house.

What you guys think ?

sounds like a plan for peace of mind - BUT it may take a while for an electrcian to visit

Keep using the 10 meter extension cable that's plugged in this to power the fridge.
make sure that fully uncoiled - should be ok , BUT i always like cables uncoiled - i have seen the result of not doing that a few times - big fire

if have anything else faulty - then powering on/off often shows up faults - happened all the time on big computers i worked on, when maintenace and you switch off to clean up all the fans etc - it would often not switch back on again - we would often (every 6mth or so , routine maintenace, so scheduled ) switch the power off - just to check it works ok

None of those photos, fill me with any confidence in that installation - basically, it looks like a really amateur botched job. I also spotted that lack of an earth to the socket, and was in the process of pointing it out, only to then read that it had been already noted. You should not use that socket, for anything, until it has been rectified.

I agree with H. It looks like a builder or amateur has done the work.
I would like to see every connection checked or re-terminated, earth sleeving and grommets fitted, and also the consumer unit should be checked for ALL secure connections too.

and the ring may be disconnected somewhere else as a loose connection in the toaster plug should not have taken out the other sockets - see the link i gave for a ring main its powered both ways
my daughters had this issue and they could not find where the ring was broken . i think it was just the earth - and suspected a junction under the floor after a lot of testing - so split to 2 mcbs
so that should also be tested
