Hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone here has experience with older Winkhaus tilt and turn uPVC window hinges.
I'm helping a friend replace the hinges on his window. I've already bought replacement Winkhaus hinges, but we're having a real problem removing the pin from the old top hinge.
The pin appears to come out downwards, but it's completely stuck. We've tried gripping it with pliers, tapping it with a screwdriver and hammer, and applying Action Can RP-90 penetrating oil. We've also tried with the window both open and closed, but the pin hasn't moved at all.
I actually have the same type of hinges on my own window at home, and I managed to tap the pin out without much trouble. So I don't think there's any special locking mechanism on these older hinges.
I've searched online and found instructions for newer Winkhaus hinges, which have a screwdriver-operated release mechanism, but the older ones don't seem to have anything like that.
I think it would be much easier to drive the pin out from above, but unfortunately there's almost no room to get a tool in from the top. That's why I've been trying to tap the protruding end of the pin downwards, but it just won't move.
I'm wondering if there's a special tool for removing these pins in such tight spaces, or perhaps another trick I'm missing.
The hinge is quite corroded, so I'm also wondering if that's what's causing the pin to seize.
Has anyone dealt with this type of hinge before? Is there a particular technique or another way to remove the hinge without damaging the window?
I'll upload some photos shortly so you can see exactly what the old hinge looks like, how little space there is to work with, and the pin I'm trying to remove.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!
