Help - RSJ in Party wall

Hi,

I am planning to remove an internal wall of a 1930's house to create a through lounge diner.

My question is:

Can the RSJ still be placed in a Party wall? as I was told by a builder that a brick pier needs to be built to sit the RSJ giving added support i.e 12inches.

Any comment will be gratefully received.

you can sit it on a party wall but you need to give two months notice to your neighbour. and obviously the integrity and suitability of the wall needs proving .
