hi there,
Today i took up the hall carpet to lay down a laminate floor and found around the stair newel post that the floor was braking up,what i need to know is what to use to repair it? Could i use sharp sand and concrete?

As you can see in the second pic that it has been repaired before, this is because it was it was like the new hole about 4 years ago so shall i do the same as the NHBc bloke do?

Sharp sand and cement will be perfect.

Damp the area thoroughly first. Mix the stuff 4:1 with only enough water to hold it together when squeezed in your hand.

Pack it into the hole and trowel smooth.
