HELP - VERY VERY OLD VULCAN BOILER!!!

Anyone who encourages DIY gas work should have his posting deleted by Mad Mod 10 as thats totally irresponsible.

Ask any man outside a pub if he is competent and after a few pints he thinks he is capable of anything, particularly driving home!

Evening All,

Haven't replied lately as we don't have tinterweb at home yet.

We now have hot water!!! It was an air lock that is now sorted. The only problem we have now is that it is still the original timer on the boiler, this is so old and corroded that the dial crumbles if you even look at it. Have someone coming to look at it tomorrow (a professional!!!!) to see if we can have a new timer fitted for the time being.

Don't worry, I know as much about boilers as I do about getting to the moon and am not going to try either myself. I know this boiler is unnacceptable by todays standards but until we get ship shape and actually get quotes for a new one we just have to make do as safely as possible. I'm certain the old lady that had the house before us didn't die of asbestosis or the cold.

Thanks for the replies and help everyone.

Mike.

Are you suggesting he has a leak because I can't see it. or are you saying its a common fault, or BG scare tactics

Sorry DIA - I have just seen the error of my ways - my apologies - I should have said "gas leak from the gas valve".

'Tis a common age-related fault on the valve fitted to these boilers.

Er, what you apologising for? You said "leaking fumes from the (asbestos) flue and gas from the gas valve", so you did say leaking gas from the gas valve.

just on reading this i persume giblets on about an anti gravity valve as a non return valve.
